Wrapping the BMW 4 G22, G23, and G26

The new BMW 4 Series Coupe stands out on the road with its distinctive yet elegant design. The expressive look is emphasized by the massive signature BMW grille, while the sleek body lines are mesmerizing.

However, one unpleasant fact spoils the idyll—on the very first drive home from the dealership, the body will be hit by the first grains of sand, small stones, and other abrasives. Scratches won’t take long to appear, and visible signs of wear on the paintwork will become evident within a few months.

The body can remain perfect for many years if you apply a protective film to the BMW 4 G26 in time. That’s exactly what our customer came to our CarEngineering studio for. To fully protect the car from damage and preserve its original color, our experts used a transparent polyurethane film. As a result, the vehicle not only gained reliable protection but also an extra glossy finish. How we achieved such results is detailed in this article.

Which material to choose for wrapping the BMW 4 in film? If your goal is to protect the car, it’s essential to consider the thickness, protection level, and special characteristics of the film. Polyurethane film is ideal for combining these properties. Its main advantages are:

  1. High level of protection: The film acts as a reliable barrier against road sandblasting, winter reagents, and poor-quality car washes. Insects, bird droppings, oils, mold, and salts are also harmless to the coating.
  2. Flexibility and elasticity: These important characteristics prevent the material from deforming under heat or freezing temperatures. Protection remains effective and reliable year-round. Cracking from frost, tearing, or peeling off the body are issues you won’t face when choosing polyurethane.
  3. Self-healing scratches: When heated, polyurethane works its magic—scratches disappear, scuffs vanish, and the coating regains its smooth, glossy appearance. There’s nothing magical about it though—polyurethane behaves like rubber, which also changes when exposed to heat.
  4. Low maintenance requirements: Under the film, the BMW 4’s body stays in perfect condition throughout the film’s lifespan, and the polyurethane itself requires no care. Occasional washes are enough to keep the car clean.
  5. Longevity: A single application of the film can last from 5 to 8 years. Once applied, there’s no need to worry about the integrity of the body for years. The material doesn’t require replacement, polishing, or additional treatments. The film can be removed without damaging the paintwork and leaves no glue residue.

Changing the car’s appearance is another popular reason to apply film at our studio. For this task, we use a different film—vinyl. Its palette offers many color options and effects: matte, carbon, chameleon, pearl, and other styling possibilities.

It’s important to note that vinyl doesn’t match polyurethane in terms of protective qualities and longevity. Vinyl guards against minor scratches, scuffs, poor washes, UV rays, and chemicals. However, if a large stone hits the film at high speed, there’s a risk of damage. Vinyl can last on the car for up to 5 years, after which it will need to be replaced. While this lifespan is insufficient for protection, it’s perfect for experimenting with new designs.

You can always consult our specialist about films. At our studio, the selection of films is tailored to each car’s unique features. We guarantee the quality of the materials. At CarEngineering, we only work with original films, purchasing rolls directly from official suppliers and opening them in front of the client. After the wrapping process, you’ll receive a warranty from both the manufacturer and our company. For example, we offer a 5-year warranty on Llumar films, while the manufacturer provides 10 years.

Wrapping the BMW 4

Why it’s important to apply anti-gravel film to the entire BMW 4: secrets to reliable wrapping We offer two wrapping options at our studio: partial and full wrapping. The first option is often chosen by car owners who want to protect only the high-risk areas. Full wrapping is preferred by those looking to shield the entire body and minimize the risk of scratches on any part. Full wrapping is also used for color films, in which case the original color is completely covered and doesn’t show through.

Which option to choose is up to you. Full wrapping is undeniably more effective, covering more parts and eliminating the risk of leaving unprotected areas. We recommend this service to those who drive frequently. Regular use accelerates paintwork wear, so the problem needs to be addressed comprehensively. As you might have guessed, the BMW 4 G22 we worked on was fully wrapped.

CarEngineering’s wrapping process and approach: how and in what conditions it’s done

Everything influences the quality of the wrapping: room conditions, temperature, and the water quality used during application. We pay attention to all these details. The workspace is always kept clean, and each car undergoes a thorough wet cleaning before wrapping. We use steam generators to regulate temperature and heat the film.

For the BMW 4 G22, we use the wet method, so water quality is crucial. We order special clean water without metal impurities, ensuring no cloudiness appears on the film.

As for the car itself, our experts take all the nuances into account:

  • Before the service, the car is inspected for chips and damage. If any are found, we repair them before applying the film.
  • To ensure a better wrap, we remove certain parts: mirrors, bumpers, door handles, and headlights. These parts are washed and wrapped separately, then reinstalled.
  • The body is washed multiple times, both on the outside and in hidden areas. Thorough washing and degreasing remove all dirt, lime scale, tar, grease, and wax.
  • The film is not applied in large sheets but cut precisely to fit each part. Before wrapping, the material is prepared, considering the specific features of the car model.
  • The film is smoothed to perfection, with specialists using rubber squeegees at least twice on each part. Proper smoothing is crucial for making the film invisible, one of the steps to achieving the desired result.
  • For more reliable protection, the film is tucked under the edges of the car’s parts. This ensures the BMW 4 can withstand high-pressure water during washing. Tucking the edges also reduces the risk of the film being lifted by stones.
  • Tucking is the final step, after which the car is left to dry. The car stays in the studio until the next day, giving the wet edges and seams time to dry and adhere to the body.

At delivery, the technician will show the results and a photo report of the work done. We’re transparent with our clients, allowing them to familiarize themselves with the entire process. At CarEngineering, we provide high-quality, meticulous, and professional work, so we have nothing to hide.
