Audi Q5 – Wrapping with Polyurethane Paint Protection Film
Car Wrapping with Paint Protection Film: A Sure Step Towards a Perfect and Shiny Body. Thanks to its protective properties, the film will keep the car’s paint from scratches and scuffs, and the most durable coating – polyurethane – can even protect the body from minor accidents and careless parking.
After applying the film just once, you can forget about frequent body maintenance for several years. And these are just some of the benefits of this popular detailing service.

Audi Q5 Wrapping – The Topic of Our Review
The owner of this iconic crossover also decided to take care of the appearance of their car and brought it to the CarEngineering studio for wrapping. We’ll explain how to choose the right body coating depending on the desired result and look at how the wrapping process works in our studio.
Polyurethane or Vinyl for Audi Q5: Understanding the Selection Criteria
The choice of film depends on the result you want to achieve. At CarEngineering, we offer two types of coatings to choose from:
- Vinyl;
- Polyurethane.
Vinyl is a great choice if you want to give your Audi a personalized look and change its appearance. Styling is the main function of vinyl wrap. With a wide variety of colors, textures, and patterns, vinyl can transform your car’s look completely. With a lifespan of 2-3 years, you also have the opportunity to update the design fairly often.

Along with a unique appearance, the car also receives a decent level of protection. The film will protect the body from sand, tree branches, shrubs, and careless washing, but it won’t withstand flying rocks. This is something to consider when choosing a coating.
The Audi in our review is a stylish olive-colored crossover, and the client’s goal wasn’t to change the car’s design but to fully protect it. For this, polyurethane film is the ideal choice.
Polyurethane: The Best Coating for Car Protection
With a thickness of 150-210 microns, polyurethane film provides a reliable barrier against branches, sand, gravel, insects, bird droppings, sap, oils, mold, and chemicals. As we can see, the level of protection is much broader compared to vinyl. In practice, polyurethane also protects against careless washing, minor parking incidents, and small accidents. In short, nothing will harm an Audi Q5 wrapped in polyurethane film.
Other important features of polyurethane include:
- Resistance to temperatures ranging from -70°C to +100°C;
- Self-healing properties under heat;
- Long service life – 5 to 8 years of active use.
Thanks to these features, the film protects the car body all year round, staying in excellent condition for its entire lifespan.
Full Body Wrapping of the Audi Q5: The Key to Effective Body Protection
Since the client wanted maximum protection for the vehicle, the choice was clear – full wrapping. You can also opt for partial wrapping. Let’s break down the differences.

Partial wrapping involves covering only the impact-prone parts of the body, such as the bumper, hood, headlights, windshield pillars, mirror covers, front fenders, and door handle cups. These parts experience the most wear and tear.
However, the rest of the body remains vulnerable to scratches and other damage. Thus, partial wrapping is effective for cars used infrequently, but may not be enough for daily driving.
Full wrapping covers the entire body of the Audi, offering the following advantages:
- Maximum protection from damage;
- No wear on unwrapped parts, as in partial wrapping;
- The entire body remains in pristine condition until the film is removed.
Additionally, we offer dechroming with black vinyl film, which is applied to chrome elements, preserving the cohesive look of the wrap and adding extra protection to small parts.

Polyurethane Film for Audi: Wrapping Secrets from CarEngineering
After selecting the film and the wrapping package, the next step is preparation. First, a qualified technician will disassemble certain body parts that will be wrapped separately. This step is essential for achieving high-quality results.
Once disassembled, the car undergoes thorough cleaning. Removing grease, wax, and dirt is crucial before wrapping. The film is then precisely cut for each part of the Audi.
When the vehicle and materials are fully prepared, the wrapping process begins:
- The film is applied to each part using a wet method;
- A steam generator is used for proper adhesion;
- The room is kept at the correct temperature;
- After application, the film is smoothed out with soft rubber squeegees.

In the final stage, the film is tucked under the edges of the body panels by 1-1.5 mm. This enhances the durability of the protection. Tucking the film prevents it from peeling off, even during high-pressure washing.
Although a clear polyurethane film was used for the Audi, it added a glossy finish and enhanced the color slightly. The film is invisible, so no one will know the car has an extra layer of protection.
