BMW X7 wrap. Coating for the new BMW X7 G07 with Polyurethane Paint Protection Film PPF

A full-size SUV from a popular German brand has arrived at the studio. This luxury vehicle looks aggressive not only because of its dimensions but also thanks to its dual-level headlights and sharp body lines. However, during operation, the car is exposed to various damages, which gradually deteriorate its condition. Sand, gravel, or even stones kicked up by other vehicles can hit the body, causing scratches and other damage to the paint. Car wash chemicals and road salts also negatively impact the body, leading many drivers who don’t use additional protective coatings to face rust more often. To avoid such problems, the best solution is to wrap the BMW X7 in a protective film. If you take care of the body and protect it right after purchase, you can maintain the vehicle’s perfect appearance for many years.

At CarEngineering, an owner of the newly restyled BMW X7 G07 came in to wrap the body with anti-gravel film. Since partial coverage was selected as the primary service, the owner decided to apply a ceramic coating to the rest of the vehicle.

In this review, we’ll describe all the nuances and stages of wrapping the BMW X7 by our specialists, as well as explain the benefits of applying ceramic coating to the paint. It’s important to note that all services at our studio are carried out exclusively by professionals with over 20 years of experience. We also pay close attention to the quality of materials, using only reliable coatings with a quality guarantee.

Features of Wrapping the BMW G07 with Different Anti-Gravel Materials

At CarEngineering, you can wrap your vehicle with two types of protective films: vinyl or polyurethane. The client’s preferences will help determine the best choice.

For style changes, we recommend vinyl. This material is known for its variety of colors and textures, allowing you to transform the car’s look by adding vibrant colors, gradients, or pearlescent finishes.

The protective properties of vinyl take a backseat. With a thickness of 100-150 microns, vinyl wrap on the BMW X7 will protect only against minor damage, chemical effects, and scratches from branches or gravel. However, it’s unlikely to handle more significant damage like scratches from stones or minor accidents. This type of film is ideal for periodic design changes, with a lifespan of 2 to 5 years.

For clients seeking the best protection, we recommend polyurethane film. This coating is denser than vinyl, with a thickness of 150 to 200 microns, ensuring the highest level of protection.

Polyurethane film provides complete protection for the 2024 BMW X7 against mechanical and chemical damage, such as:

  • Unsuccessful parking
  • Minor accidents
  • Scratches from branches, stones, or keys
  • Chemicals and aggressive substances
  • Resin, salts, road reagents
  • Bird droppings

One of the advantages of polyurethane film is its long lifespan of 5-10 years. Throughout this period, it consistently protects the paint from wear and damage.

Polyurethane film is also low-maintenance, requiring only regular washing. It is resistant to extreme temperatures, and it does not crack or shift in cold weather, maintaining its protective properties, while hot sun even benefits the film.

Another reason to wrap the BMW X7 in polyurethane film is its self-healing effect. Under high temperatures, any scratches that form during use will disappear. Simply leave the vehicle in the sun for a few hours, and the film on the BMW X7 G07 will look as good as new.

Polyurethane film is also a great option for styling, but it does not offer the same variety of designs as vinyl. Most clients prefer transparent polyurethane to keep the protective layer visually inconspicuous, preserving the original look of the vehicle. Another option is matte film, which highlights the body’s lines, making them appear deeper and more captivating. The car’s color acquires a soft hue, with interesting transitions from brighter to lighter shades depending on how light hits the body. Importantly, both gloss and matte films protect the paint equally well.

Which Wrapping Package to Choose for the BMW G07

At CarEngineering, you can wrap your vehicle in different ways, offering two main options: partial or full protection. The partial wrap package covers areas most at risk of damage: the front bumper, hood, fenders, roof strip, A-pillars, door handle areas, mirror covers, and headlights. This is the minimum protection required for any vehicle. Partial wrapping is suitable for cars used infrequently, as unprotected parts will continue to wear out and be vulnerable to damage. For these areas, we recommend applying ceramic coating, which acts as a sealant for the paint.

At CarEngineering, ceramic coating is applied in three layers:

  1. Base layer
  2. Main ceramic layer
  3. Water-repellent layer

This is enough for the ceramic coating on the BMW X7 to protect against chemicals and UV damage. The coating also evens out the shine of the paint compared to the film-covered areas and gives the body a water-repellent effect. Thanks to this feature, raindrops or snow will leave no trace on the vehicle, as water simply rolls off the body, allowing drivers to wash their cars less frequently.

Choosing ceramic coating means understanding its limitations. While it protects against chemical effects, it won’t serve as a barrier against scratches or other mechanical damage. It also requires maintenance, with the ceramic layer needing to be refreshed approximately once a year.

For full protection, we recommend opting for the complete wrap package. This covers all parts of the vehicle except for piano-black trim and rear lights, which can be wrapped as an additional service upon request. Full wrapping ensures comprehensive protection from chemical and mechanical damage, making the vehicle nearly invulnerable. Wrapping all the body parts once can save time and money on future unexpected repairs.

Wrapping Process at CarEngineering

Wrapping a vehicle with a protective film should be done in a clean environment while maintaining proper temperature conditions. Therefore, before any vehicle arrives at the CarEngineering studio, the workspace undergoes thorough wet cleaning to ensure no particles of dirt interfere with the film application process.

The BMW X7 G07 Wrapping Process at CarEngineering

After cleaning the workspace, our experts prepare all necessary tools and a roll of new, high-quality film. Once preparation is complete, we are ready to start wrapping the vehicle. Upon arrival, the specialists inspect the car’s body for any damage. If there are any, we recommend polishing the body to bring the vehicle’s paint to perfection before applying the film.

If the car is brand new, the next step is the disassembly of some parts: bumpers, moldings, door handles, and mirrors. This pre-disassembly not only allows for a more thorough cleaning but also enables us to wrap hard-to-reach areas more effectively, accounting for the body’s unique curves.

Once the parts are removed, we clean the vehicle using professional chemicals and clay. This mandatory step ensures all accumulated dirt, grease, wax, and tar are removed, which would otherwise interfere with the proper adhesion of the film.

The final cleaning step is degreasing, which is essential for ensuring the film adheres firmly to the paint.

Once the body is impeccably clean, our team begins wrapping the BMW X7 with film. Each part is carefully wrapped, starting with the main panels and finishing with smaller, harder-to-reach areas. The film is applied to the central part of each panel and smoothed towards the edges with soft rubber squeegees to secure it and remove any air pockets.

One of the advantages of wrapping the BMW G07 at CarEngineering is our technique of folding the film under the edges. After the film is smoothed onto the body, the technician trims the excess with a few millimeters to spare and folds it under the part being wrapped. This step is crucial because, without it, stones may hit the edges of the film, causing it to peel, or high-pressure car washes might tear it off, requiring a full reapplication.

Once the wrapping is complete, the vehicle is left in the studio for another 24 hours to allow the film to fully adhere. Before the final handover, our technicians thoroughly inspect the quality of the wrap. After confirming the quality, they report back to the client, showcasing the wrapped vehicle. However, this won’t be the last visit to CarEngineering. A follow-up inspection is scheduled a couple of weeks later to ensure the quality and reliability of the wrapping.
