Protecting a Mercedes Benz GT AMG: Paint Protection Film

Even the traditional German quality and unique design of the prestigious Mercedes Benz GT AMG cannot fully withstand potential damage. Dust, sandblasting, and tar can stick to the paintwork on the road, while stones flying from other cars’ tires can cause chips and scratches. These may seem like minor defects at first, but over time, their number only increases, spoiling the appearance of body parts and gradually erasing the car’s new look. To prevent possible consequences, we recommend promptly applying a protective film to your Mercedes Benz. If done soon after purchasing the car, it will maintain its new condition for many years of driving.

One of the owners of this prestigious Mercedes model recently approached CarEngineering for protection. The request was to cover all parts of the vehicle for complete protection. The full wrap service for the Mercedes AMG took our specialists 7 days. The wait is worth it, as the car will be under reliable protection for up to 10 years. Of course, achieving such an effect requires following the correct wrapping technique and choosing premium materials. Our specialists handle this task with excellence.

Different Protection Materials for Mercedes Benz GT AMG

The process begins with selecting the appropriate material. Depending on the owner’s priorities, either vinyl or polyurethane can be used.

For decorative purposes, to enhance or change the design, we offer vinyl wrapping. This material comes in a wide range of colors and textures, allowing for significant design alterations. However, the protective properties of vinyl are secondary. It will protect the car from minor scratches, chemicals, and fading from UV exposure, but it may not withstand flying stones and minor accidents effectively. Vinyl should be chosen if the focus is on the car’s appearance.

For complete protection of the car’s body, we recommend polyurethane film. This is favored for its resistance to chemical and mechanical damage, which is why it was chosen for the Mercedes Benz GT AMG. The material thickness ranges from 150 microns to 210 microns, sufficient to protect the paint from various hazards, including:

  • Road reagents
  • Fuel mixtures and lubricants
  • Bird droppings
  • Aggressive cleaning agents
  • Organic residue from insects
  • Gasoline, oils

Additionally, polyurethane film can safeguard the paintwork from scratches caused by branches, keys, stones, gravel, and minor accidents. It will also protect the body from damage due to careless parking.

Another key benefit of polyurethane film is its ease of maintenance and self-healing effect. Even if scratches occur during use, they will disappear under warm temperatures. Simply leaving the car in the sun for a few hours will restore the film’s appearance to like-new.

Moreover, polyurethane film lasts twice as long as vinyl, providing protection for 5 to 10 years of constant driving. Throughout this period, the film requires minimal care beyond regular washing and continues to protect the paint until it is removed. When the film’s lifespan ends, it can be easily replaced with a new covering to extend protection for another 5-10 years.

At CarEngineering, we always pay attention to quality to ensure that car owners achieve the desired result. We prepare all processes in advance: partially disassembling and washing the car to thoroughly clean it and create a quality base for applying the protective material.

Simultaneously, the workspace is prepared. The studio is kept dry and clean. Before each wrapping job, we perform a wet cleaning to avoid dust and sand particles getting under the film, which could damage the car’s appearance after protection is applied.

High quality is achieved through the use of professional tools and equipment. Most importantly, our studio’s specialists have extensive practical experience of at least twenty years.

Full Mercedes Benz film gluing

Choosing between partial and full wrapping, it’s helpful to know the differences between the two options. Both methods aim to protect body parts, but with partial wrapping, the film is applied only to the most vulnerable areas: front bumper, hood, fenders, part of the roof, front headlights, windshield pillars, areas under door handles, and mirror covers. This is a minimal protection package necessary for every car to reduce damage from external factors. For cars used daily, this minimal protection may not be sufficient. As an alternative, you can cover the rest of the body with ceramic coating, which only provides chemical protection and water-repellent effects.

Full Wrapping of the Mercedes Benz GT AMG

For maximum effectiveness, we recommend full wrapping. It covers the entire body except for the piano lacquer and rear lights. These parts can be wrapped at an additional cost if desired.

The main benefits of full wrapping include:

  • Protection from all sides
  • Minimal risk of damage
  • Ability to keep the entire car in like-new condition

The cost of full wrapping is higher than partial wrapping, but the level of protection is much greater, more reliable, and practical. Choosing full protection once can save a lot of time and money on unforeseen repairs, such as repainting damaged parts, fixing chips, and dents.

How CarEngineering Wraps the Mercedes Benz GT AMG

The workspace is always prepared in advance, so as soon as the car arrives at the studio, work can begin immediately. The first step involves removing some body elements. Removing body parts (bumpers, moldings, door handles, mirrors) allows for a more thorough protective wrap and cleaning of hard-to-reach areas. Before wrapping begins, the car body is cleaned of dust and contaminants. Washing is done in several stages using high-quality automotive chemicals and special clay to remove even seemingly invisible dirt.

Full vs. Partial Wrapping of Mercedes Benz

The film is carefully applied to larger areas of the body first, pressed firmly, and smoothed slowly. Soft squeegees are used to ensure strong adhesion to the paint. Wrapping starts from the central areas. Once the main parts are wrapped with the anti-gravel film, the process continues on smaller areas and hard-to-reach spots.

One advantage of wrapping at our studio is the use of tucking techniques. We do not skimp on the film and always perform tucking. This improves the quality of the wrap. Before tucking, the technician trims excess edges of the film and folds the remaining edge of a few millimeters under the inner part of the part.

To ensure the film is fully and securely adhered to the paint, we let it dry in the studio for another day. After all parts have dried, the car owner can pick up their protected Mercedes Benz GT AMG from our studio. At the final meeting, we provide a report on the completed work and invite the client to return to the studio in a couple of weeks for a follow-up inspection. As part of our aftercare, our specialists will wash the car for free and inspect the results once more. This allows us to ensure the work is done professionally and the client is satisfied.
